There are many types of Structural Iron but the types of structural iron that are most commonly used in Pakistan are:
- 60 grades
- 40 grades
The easiest way to determine the quality of structural iron with a naked eye is to observe the ends of its length. If you find small branches at the ends of its length then it will be structural iron of low quality because it’s made up of waste material. There is a small stamp at the end of each length of Structural Iron in order to examine its good quality. That stamp carries its grade and Company’s name.
In the Construction sector of Pakistan, Rebars ranging from 3 to 8 are commonly used. Amongst all the rebars, rebar either 3 or 4 are most commonly used in houses. A structural iron of rebar # 4 is used in roofs, stairs, small columns, and small beams etc. And a structural iron of rebar # 6 is highly used in large columns and large beams.
In terms of Construction, the number of steel bars used in Pakistan is of three types.
- Deformed Bar
- Tor Bar
- Plain Bar
Deformed Bar:
The identity of the deformed bar is the vertical or horizontal lining present on it due to which square boxes are seen on it.
Tor Bar:
The identity of the tor bar is the vertically twisted lining present on it.
Plain Bar:
The plain steel bar is totally plain and there is no such lining present on it.
Steel bar is most commonly used in the construction of houses, whereas tor bar or plain bar is mostly used in the construction of precast concrete.
Essential things to note while buying Structural Iron:
- One thing that should be kept in mind while purchasing an iron bar that it should be of a good brand and good quality. Mughal Steel, Model Steel, Amreli Steel, and FF Steel are recognized as one of the top Pakistani reliable companies.
- Always check the stamp carrying grade of structural iron while purchasing.
- It is important to note while buying a structural iron that it should be rust-free, crack-free and there should be no scaling at all. These are all the factors of low-quality structural iron.
Words of Precautions:
- While using structural iron in the commercial or industrial sector, you can organize a laboratory test of structural iron in order to check the tensile strength or bending test.
- During the stacking of structural iron, it is essential to consider that the atmosphere should be moisture-free.
- Structural Iron should not be directly placed on the floor.
Planks should be placed first, then do stack the structural iron and wrap the polythene paper around them properly In order to save structural iron from rust. In a nutshell, rusting makes the strength of structural iron weak.
